There's usually one person at every dinner who never quite sits down.

They're up refilling the water glasses. Finding the extra chair. Nudging the heat up because someone across the table looked a little cold.

They ask, more than once, "Are you warm enough?"

They've gotten so good at reading the room's temperature — who needs a blanket, who needs a refill, who's gone quiet and hasn't been asked about it — that it stops occurring to anyone to check theirs.

The person who keeps everyone warm is usually the last one anybody thinks to ask if they're cold.
