Porch lights with motion sensors are incredibly stupid.

They can’t tell the difference between a burglar,

a stray cat or a plastic grocery bag blowing down the street.

They just see movement.

And their only setting is to flood the driveway with light.

Beautiful Human,

your heart has a setting like that too.

Sometimes it flashes wide open

for the wrong people, or the wrong moments, or nothing at all.

That’s not a malfunction.

That’s just your security system doing what it was built to do:

keeping the dark at bay.
